Our Forest Notes was exhibited at the “Design Spectrum” in Hong Kong, a design exhibition to promote design culture in Asia, for 2 months from July 19th to September 18th, 2019..
This exhibition, which is held by Hong Kong Design Center, is an installation to review designs across Asia by selecting and gathering more than 90 works using bamboo, timber, or paper, which are plentiful resources of Asia, from the past award-winning works of “DFA Design for Asia Awards”*, the international design award of Hong Kong.
Forest Notes was displayed at this exhibition in honor of the awards it received in the past: the Grand Award, and the Gold Award for Communication Design of “DFA Design for Asia Awards 2014.”

Comments from the organizer Hong Kong Design Center on Forest Notes

“Artwork made of wood, which is designed to transcend boundaries of sense”

Forest Notes is a speaker designed by the JVCKENWOOD Design Corporation to deliver forest sounds in real time.
Just as subdued light of ambient lighting (indirect lighting) gives a relaxation effect in an urban space, calm sounds of nature relieve the tension accumulated in family life or in the work place, and enhance concentration.
By having inner walls slightly curved, the cubic chestnut frame created by a traditional craftsman from Hida Takayama, Gifu actualizes high quality audio.

*DFA Design for Asia Awards
This international award was established by Hong Kong Design Center in 2003. Each year, entrants from more than 20 countries across Asia submit their works. World-renowned professionals judge those works from the four standpoints of cultural value, sustainability, tradition/technology, and effect on Asian society, and awards are conferred to the most outstanding works.

Provides a space with presence of nature right beside oneself, in the middle of a city

Based on the main concept “entrance to the forest,” Forest Notes is designed to create a space where forest sounds naturally float out from nowhere, by making the center of the cube hollow to let the wall surface vibrate.
In addition, the capacity of the cube is designed to be equivalent to the volume of oxygen that a tree produces by photosynthesis, in order to express our wish for people to listen to the forest sounds with appreciation for the energy of life emitted from trees.
Presently, Forest Notes is available at many sites to provide free live streaming service. Our company will continue designing creation of a society where people can live with nourished minds through our concepts and services, including Forest Notes, which utilize relationships with local communities and traditional techniques.

*Wooden speakers of Forest Notes are no longer available for sale.
